Recently, the girlfriend and I went on an excursion to an outlet mall an hour or so away. We got back in the cherokee and it would not start. Needless to say an attempted jump, and cab ride to advance, some road rash, and three hours later the starter was replaced. It had been giving me a little trouble, but never refused to do anything like it did that day.
Luckily, i had the tools i needed to replace it in the parking lot.
I'm curious as our cherokees age, what specific tools and spare parts would you guys suggest to carry on trips and such.

I'd say you should carry in your XJ at all times a minimum of 250 pounds of tools and extra assorted crap
Just make sure you have ALL the tools and extra assorted crap you'll need.
And a cell phone.

My CPS will probably die tomorrow !

Don't forget a spare everything...lol. when I go wheeling I bring a floor jack just in case even though we have hi-lifts. Can never go wrong with vice grips and ducktape too

I keep a full tool kit, Hi-lift, tow strap, Shovel, bungees, bailing wire, ratchet straps, oil, coolant, duct tape, hose clamps, sleeping bag, water purifier, a gun and some other random odd's and end's with me at all times. If I leave something in the garage that is what I will need while I'm out there. So I have learned.

I carry a full tool set, ****** straps, ratchet straps (good for securing things in the back, as well as holding broken parts on the Jeep...like the hatch for example lol), chains and cables (for winching with the Hi Lift), floor jack, Hi Lift, jackstands, shovels, 2x4s, 4 way wrench for lug nuts, tire spoons (in case I lose a bead and get mud in the tire, pop the tire off the wheel, clean it out, and remount it, or for patching a tire), full size spare, tire patches and plugs, flashlights (I carry two of them, one 2D LED Maglite, and a rechargeable lantern I got when I worked for the railroad, so if the batteries die in one I have another), jumper cables (sometimes a spare fully charged battery too, if I'm going to be out on my own), water (a gallon for the radiator if needed, and a gallon to drink if I get stranded overnight), engine oil, brake fluid, duct tape, electrical tape, electrical wire, extra clothes, extra cigarettes, extra lighter, extra fluid and flints for the Zippo.
That's about all I usually carry, I may be forgetting something. Most of the time if I'm going to be farther away from my house than I can easily walk in an hour or two, I'm offroad where I could be stranded overnight before I can get someone out to help if needed, so what I carry may be overkill, but if I ever need it, I'll be glad I've got it.

It might take some heroic searching, but there is at least one thread here on CF with a load of ideas of what to carry. Wire and duct tape!

For many of us, the Jeep is a daily driver and an offroad rig, so all that STUFF is in there constantly. I live in the desert, so I have three gallons of water in the Jeep at all times, not to mention tools, coolant, serp belt, hammer, grease gun, t.p., rags, coolant checker, 5 qts oil, gloves, etc.

My jeep hates malls, I have a 50 mile trip each way to work and back with long stretchs of nothing. If I break down I'm screwed also carry tire plug kit, 2 cans of seal n' air, fuses, flashlights, duct tape, bfh, cellphone, spare lightblubs inc. headlamp ect....
