Default rings relaxed

Anyone heard of rings relaxing after an engine was run hot. I had a auto teacher tell me about it about 10 yrs ago but google isn't showing any info on it. My teach said that rings can lose their springness and cause lower compression after a motor is run hot. Have any of ya'll heard of this condition or did I dream it up... lol. Couldn't find any info on google. thanks

Well I've found weak compression in the lower end of motors after they've been over heated bad. Yea I can see it being possible. Kinda like ruining the tensile strength of treated metal by heated it too hot and cooling it the wrong way.
