Default Rimeibg belt or chain

Hi all,

A thick question but I could just do with some reassurance!! I have just brought my first jeep a 1996 cherokee sport (uk n reg) petrol, and, due to previous card snapping cam / timing belts I'm concerned as I can't see if this one has been replaced!!! The auxiliary belt was replaced last year but when I asked the owner about the timely belt he said he didn't know... I've looked at many of the posts and the theme is that they have chains... Could someone confirm?

Thanks in advance

Timing chain is very hardy on the 4.0

I've seen many go 300k miles and more.
