I have to replace the front pinion seal. I was told by the guy on the phone (Advance Auto Parts) that this was the one I needed, so I ordered it. However, it doesn't look exactly like the one on my 2001 XJ 4x4. I don't think mine is flanged and I definitely don't have the big pressed-in washer that this one has. Can I use this one? If not, what is the correct one for my vehicle? If you can recommend one that I can get at O'Reilly, Advanced Auto Parts, NAPA, Pepboys, or Autozone, that would be great.

not sure what the 01 xj takes, but my buddies 98 takes the other one.
there are two available for the xj. i would just buy both and return the other.

Sorry to highjack the thread but to caged. How did you know what to torque the flange down to. My rear is leaking and i have to replace mine on my 98 limited.

 

bubba, shop manual, my friend. i use haynes, but a chilton would suffice.
