revs as if in neutral at 35 mph
Hi, I was driving my 97 cherokee the other day at 35 mph and everything was going nicely. Then gave some more gas and it just revved like it was in neutral. Once I slowed down, the transmission kicked in again and it made it up to 55 no problem. I was concerned, but not too worried.
Then today, I was driving again at 35 and it happened again! I slowed down and it kept happening. Finally, it kicked in and I could drive as usual.
I checked the transmission fluid, following the haynes manual instructions and it seems to be way too high. The tranny was rebuilt about a year ago and I just put a new transfer case on to fix the 4WD about 3 months ago.
Any ideas?

If the transmission fluid is too full, the rotating bits can turn it into foam.
Foam doesn't work well in transmissions.
My first priority would be draining the fluid and getting it to the correct level.
