Default Reverse (R) grinding and vibration

Hey'all..i am recently feeling an increase of vibration and grinding when i shift to reverse in my 91xj ..and the grinding gets higher when i turn the steering wheel left or right to the max and drive reverse (to park or whatever)...but when shifting to Drive mode it disappears..is it a reverse gear issue in the tranny ?

Check your engine and trans mounts.

Look here: Your exhaust pipe may be contacting the crossmember.

If you had exhaust work done with the old mounts you might have the same problem I did. I got a new muffler and had the guy tuck it high so I wouldn't rip it off again, then I put new trans and engine mounts on and then the exhaust would hit the floor and rattle. Just a thought.

I just went through a similar problem where the new tranny mount actually caused the vibration, especially in reverse. The anchor brand mount I used was missing a small hole for the tiny bump that sticks out of the exhaust bracket. Did the vibration start right after you put on the new mount? if so you may want to check.

The exhaust pipe is not contacting the crossmember as it has a solid bracket..the thing is..i didnt change my transmission mount yet..only the motor mount..so here is the problem=as the engine has new mounts it is back to normal height what made the transmission tilt backward and letting the t-case hit the crossmember hard when going on stiff bumps....sooo..silly i am its a transmission mount issue..i guess.

As i can see..the bottom of the t-case is contacting the crossmember..so when going on bumps it hits hard as the transmission mount isnt doing its job correctly.

1/2inch between the exhaust pipe and the crossmember
