Reverse problems
Hey , newbie to the site but not to jeep had 93 wrangler, 73 Cj 5 ,99 cherokee, and back in the game with recent purchase, 2000 Cherokee Xj limited. Motor and trans run smoothe and strong. However when I park downhill and put it in reverse ( so going in reverse up hill. It has a bad grind/clunk , and doesn't let up until you take it out of reverse.
Any ideas
Thx

I am not all that experienced in this area. But I can tell you that many of the posts related to reverse-under-load problems like you have described are often recommended by the experienced folks to inspect the condition of their flex-plate and the proper tightening/torque of the flex-plate bolts. You can search for this independently, but there is an inspection panel between the motor and transmission housing for this purpose, and quite a few youtube videos and forum posts describing it in more detail.
Does it have any trouble actually reversing (hesitating, slipping, etc)? Or is it just producing noise clunk/grind noise, but otherwise reversing OK?
Btw, the title of your post... "Reverse Problems", made me realize that is why most of us are here.

It will reverse fine just loud. Obviously at this point I avoid parking down hill when possible. Only had it a week , so I'm still working the bugs out. Thanks for the help, I'll look for those you tube videos as well as former threads

So I figured out my noise was coming from the engine compartment . The previous owner installed a small diamond plate above the left side of the radiator. I assume it was used to keep free of the fan. When on a hill in reverse the motor would torque just enough to rub on the fan. Defiantly an easy fix.
Thanks for the input I appreciate it
