My reverse lights are not working on my 1993 jeep cherokee 4.0 auto tranny.what should I check?

Has it ever had the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) replaced or adjusted? Try having someone watch the lights while you jiggle the shifter in R (Try pushing/jiggling it upwards towards the P), if the lights come on while you are doing this, it is probably that the NSS is just slightly out of adjustment. (some of the aftermarket NSS I have heard are very difficult to get into adjustment, and can leave you with reverse lights problem).

Thanks for the quick reply Jordan.I have never replaced the NSS but I will go check that now.

Won't likely need replaced. If simple adjustment doesn't work a good cleaning and then adjust till everything works should do the trick.

i get a check eng lite with codes pointing at the nss but zero problems or other symptoms. it goes out in time. i ignore it but wonder if its just an adjustment?
