Default replacing oil pump.

I will be replacing the oil pump and rear main seal and was hoping for a quick how to. I have found a little info on the forum but I was hoping for some more detail. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Drop the oil pan and remove the two bolts holding the pump to the block.
Remove the main bearing girdle.
Remove the rear main bearing cap.
Use a brass punch to remove the block side of the RMS. Once it starts moving you can geab it with a pair of needle nose pliers.
Remove the bearing cap portion of the RMS.
lightl oil the new RMS halves and reinstall.
Reinstall the bearing cap.
Reinstall the girdle.

Remove the cover plate from the new oil pump and pack it full of Vaseline, re0mstall cover.
Install the new oil pump.
Transfer the oil pickup tube from the old pump to the new.
Reinstall the oil pan.
Replace the oil filter.
Add 6 qt.s of oil.

You're done.

What do you have to do to remove the pan? is there a bunch of stuff in the way?

Pulling starter makes it easier as does removing the downpipe. If the rig is not lifted, putting it on jackstands allows the front axle to hang lower and makes the pan easier to remove.

dont forget to dab the corners of the main cap with RTV.

hmm okay. i picked up a haynes manual and it says you have to drop the axle... thats not really necessary is it?

i have an oil pressure problem and ill probably have to do this job as well lol

Put your floor jack under the axle, place some tall jackstands under the frame rails and remove the tires, then lower the floor jack. You should have ample room to remove the pan then.

heres an additional info about oil pump,I used this diy personally and its effective..

replacing the oil pump never hurts but dont be upset if it doesnt fix your problem......

why would you put vaseline inside your oil pump?

It creates instant suction and immediately pulls oil into the pump.

no kidding.

Are you sure that it needs replacing? I would make sure that the sending unit isn't faulty first. I replaced my oil pump only to find that it had the [i]exact same problem[/] as my other one did... a bad sending unit.

10 minutes after acquiring another one, my oil pressure issue was fixed.
