Default Replacing oil pan - what else should I replace while I'm down there?

So whoever owned my Jeep before me was an idiot and somehow managed to strip the threads on my oil drain bolt. I went to pull it out yesterday and it just spun and spun. I guess someone tried to tighten it with an airwrench.

Anyway, now I have to replace the oil pan. While I'm down there is there anything else I should consider replacing? If I can I think I'm going to do all the front end bushings, since I'm gonna have to drop the axle anyway. I think I'll also replace the steering dampener as well since I need to pull it to get to the pan. Am I missing anything else I should be doing while I've got the front more or less apart?

Anyone got an oil pan for a 4.0L they wanna get rid of for cheap? I'm poor.

Thanks!

If you are pulling the pan anyway, you will definitely want to replace your rear main seal. They are notorious for leaking in the Jeep 4.0 litres.

I do need to dump the tranny fluid, so that could be quite convenient...

Well, I'm going to get a list of what I want to do while I've got the pan off. Once I know the total I will pick and choose what I get based on how much money I have. My XJ has 170k so actually the oil pump might not be a bad idea if I can swing the $90 or so to grab one.

You dont need to pull the tranny pan to get to the rear main seal. Just pull the torque converter inspection cover and the oil pan and it is right there.

For the cost of one of those I can buy a new oil pan and gasket and not risk having my pan crack or something.

Was told by 4 mechanics today not to try to fix it and just to replace it. 3 wouldn't touch it at all unless to replace the pan and the one who was willing to try a repair said there is a very high probability of it failing quickly. Was told I'm better off with the stripped, free-spinning bolt in there than with a repair.

If I can simply fix it I will, it just seems from everything I have read and been told that it is a very bad idea to do so.

Yup, looking at my manual now. It looks super easy. I'll drain the tranny fluid anyway. 170k miles and no idea what condition the fluid is in. Bushings and fluids all around are my first priority I think.

I love how easy this Jeep is to work on!

True! I'm more constrained by time than by ability. Bleh. How long should it take to replace the pan do you think?

Not hard at all. It's just geting everything out of the way first. Take your time and do as the instructions say. If you can do a lunchbox locker install, then you can do a rear main seal too.

You don't have to pull the axle to drop the oil pan.

Replace the oil pump and the rear main seal while you are in there.

Oil pump is about 90 bucks. The rear main is about 15.

Shops charge 4 hours for the job. It's not too hard. A buddy and a punch will make it much easier.
