replacing headlight switch
1995 xj country. 4.0 liter. Auto trans. Are there some tricks to getting old switch out? Removed push/pull **** & switch mounting screw. Can't physically get switch out of dash. Please help. TIA.

There should be a little spring loaded metal button on the switch body. Maybe about the size of a pencil eraser. While pushing it, it allows you to pull the **** and shaft out as a single piece. Then you can take the switch out the back of the dash.

I think the OP got that far. Once you have the ****/shaft and lockring off you just need to wiggle, and fuss around and rearrange until suddenly you hit the right orientation and it about falls out. No real trick involved.

Sounds good. The first time I tried removing one of these kind of switches, I worked the plastic **** off the shaft. Not knowing any better.

That happened to me - due to the shaft being rusted in place!
OP refers to a "switch mounting screw" - not sure what/where that is, unless it's the lockring, but if that's not been removed, no amount of wiggling & jiggling is going to achieve anything.
