Well I'm pretty sure my seals are bad. After putting the car in 4low for the first time in it's life i think they blew. I searched for a how to write but could only find rear axle. I have an 89 xj.
the front seals are all the way in the center housing. Cliff notes...remove diff cover, drain gear oil, then to then remove wheels, brakes, unit hub w/axle shaft attached. Back to the center, pull the carrier, with a long stick/pole knock the seals from outside in, pop new seals in, reassemble.
oops...89XJ...you should have the passenger side disconnect axle, that adds a little confusion, but same general steps I outlined.

This is the website i always use to order parts, i just dont know what i need, theres a hundred different seals listed.http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-ax...herokee-xj.htm
When you see it you'll know if you have the vac or not. If it not vac the seals are super easy to R&R . If vac unit the dirver side is easy the passanger side is a different story I have to make a tool to get that seal in.
Watch to make sure the axle doesn't run dry, and that the brake pads don't get wet.
Mine is leaking very slightly too....I have it on the round 'tuit list for now. Not quite bad enough to motivate me and I have to do the u-joints anyway....
Good luck!
