Default replacing fan with electric fan

Has anyone ever tried removing the belt driven fan and replacing it with another electric fan that was on the other side? I was thinking of tring this and wiring it to come on when the key is on. And have the factory fan using the sender.

I've seen at least one thread on here about that. In general, the benefit is that parasitic drag is reduced during normal driving, kicking in only when the engine temperature gets too high--idling in summer traffic, for example.

Default Yes you can!

On my last xj build I replaced both electric fan and mechanical fan with three derale 10" fans. Allowed me to run in 4lo with ac on with no over heating problems. I wired them directly to the acc so they came on as soon as I started. I did this so I did not have to rely on a temperature switch device...Safer that way. Also improves acceleration.

Just finished this up on my xj, i took a sawzall and made a clean cut to remove the stock mechanical fan, then bought dual 12" fans from summit and wired them with a relay to the battery. I only wheel my jeep then trailer it home, but i can go all day running in 4LO and hammering the throttle and she stays below 200. Best engine mod i've made so far, helps a lot on acceleration.
