89, 4.0, 4x4, dana30 cad axle

diff fluid is leaking out the passenger knuckle. looks like i need seals. i called oreilly and he says there is a "hub assembly" that has to be replaced. my research says i have to replace the seals just outside the pumpkin. what do i need to do? what parts? what else should i replace while it is all out? i have a spartan locker on the way so it will go in too.

If you have gear oil comming out of the knuckle area than (as you said) you need to replace the inner seals that are located just outside the carrier bearings in the axle tubes.

its the axle seal.



a time consuming task to do but $16 for the seal and $10 for lube and a good afternoon you can get them done.

if you have bad ball joints or bad hubs, replace them now to or the new axle seal will just fail like the old one.




you can replace it a few ways extensions and a socket (i used a 1 3/4")

if you dont get them in strait you will screw up the seal too (i went thru 4)


make sure you clean your axle tubes out as well
