Default Replacing '89 Cherokee radio

I have an '89 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with the original AM/FM radio. I'd like to replace it with a modern radio with CD/MP3, thumb drive option, etc.

How compatible with modern radios is the current bezel opening on the dash? The present radio sits behind the bezel opening and flush up against it.

I did same thing . When you remove the factory radio youll see a metal bracket mounted to the radio . 2 screws hold it on. Take that bracket off and mount to the new radio . I bought 1 from Wal Mart. Its a JVC 200 watt with mp3 hook up and wireless remote that I mounted to the back of the steering wheel. It was $80. Sits in like factory and looks good.

I replaced my stock radio with a sony explode radio on my 89 cherokee. it's a standard size i think it's called a single DIN size and wiring harness plug, to wire on to the new radio (i bought mine at pepboys in stock for 20 bucks) and the wires on the plug matched right up color for color with the wires in the new radio. just remove the bezel around the guages. remove the screws holding on the radio(i think 4 if i remember) un-plug the wireing harness and antenna wire from the back of the radio. the new radio will come with a sleeve so mount the sleeve in the dash bezel bending over the tabs to hold it in place just 2 on all 4 sides is enough. re install the bezel in the dash pull the harnes and antenna plug through the radio mounting sleeve and plug it in to the new plug you put on your new radio and plug in the antenna. then feeh the harness and radio back into the dash and you should hear a click and the radio is now installed. the hole in the dash is the perfect size for a standard radio size. one of the easiest radios i ever installed. no cutting. chipping grinding it just fit perfectly.

If they aren't blown, they will be "okay".
