Default Replaced alternator won't stay running

Today on my way to work my 99 XJ died out on me, when I hooked jump box it ran fine long enough to get it onto flat bed. When I first hooked up jump box it was only ready 9v on the battery. Took the alternator to parts store passed the test. I was told that they will pass even when they are bad because of external regulator.went a head replaced alternator. It started up and pushed 14.32v for about 2 min before it started sputtering. Dropped to 8 v for a sec went back up to 14v then died at 13v. Checked fuel pressure was at around a 40. Only other thought is maybe it's dying now because of cracked distributor cap? It has had trouble the last few days starting while its Ben wet here. Also battery is 2 month old 800cca so I don't think that would be part of issue. Any ideas?

do not think a cracked cap would have anything to do with how many volts the alternator is putting out. my 97 would sputter and stall when driving while raining and wet. set for 10 minutes, would start and go for a bit then do it again. ended up being the o2 sensor on the cat. when it got wet, would mess up. try unplugging it and see how it runs. if no change, unplug the upper one. if it runs good while wet. and both are unplugged. need new o2 sensors. thats how i figured out what was wrong after i bought a new throttle position sensor. i was told thats whats wrong. ended up being the sensors after they tested fine. when wet guess it was shorting out. computers are good. but sometimes they are not so good either. haha

I read codes today on it and it is camshaft position sensor. However i cant find it on the motor. I found a video for a 2001 cherokee but mine still has a distributor cap so im not sure were it is located.

I believe the cam sensor is the same as the pickup coil(hidden under the distributor cap)
