I have a friend with a 91 XJ Laredo and a 91 Dodge Dakota that rear bed was cut and made into a trailer.
Someone recently sold him some new Chinese (or other) 31's x 10.50's that measure a little smaler than 31's x 10.50s for $50.00 each. He balanced them and installed them and they do fit but the rears rub when going down the road and the fronts rub when turning.
So I told him about an S-10 rear leaf bastard pack which he was looking to make from a pair from a JY that wanted $75.00.
The other day he happened to measure the rear leafs from the 91 Dakota trailer and found them to be approx. the same length. The Dakotas have a second stage straight spring for a total of 4 leafs.
He's wondering about swapping the rears on his XJ for the rears springs on the Dakota trailer since their approx. the same length. I told him didn't know but sounded as if the Dakota springs would work on his 91 XJ. but didn't know how much of alift all 4 Dakota leafs would bring if it would be enough or too much for his 31s?
Perhaps he could try both using and then removing the forth overload spring to keep any lift the right height for the 31's.
The spring width is the same however I'm uncertain abut the Dakota spring eyes will fit the XJ ok?

Swapping the whole leaf pack won't work. I did a bastard pack on a 00 years ago using Dakota leaves. I took the Dakota main leaf and cut the eyes off of the ends and put them in my stock XJ packs just below the XJ's main leaf. Got me about 2.5ish inches of lift.

We're thinking of just getting some sort of lift kit or springs so we can install the 31s. I think a 2.5 - 3 inch lift should work ok?
