I used a bulb from a three cell Mag light. It waz posted that just a 12v dome light bulb would work, but I guess I did something wrong. I just bent paper clips, a little tricky, but it worked with that (what would be about) 4-1/2 volt bulb from my mag light. Any small bulb might work). So here is my little U-tube thing> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPdkU...ature=youtu.be

If the injectors are not getting power and it is not getting fuel, it should fire with starting fluid. An easy test. Just don't get carried away! A two second shot is allot! (always be careful with any can like that around a battery or power) . A short will both rupture the can and light the contents!

I had an 89 at one point in time that was running good other than a serious knock. then one day it just quit running. no warning, nothing. I messed with it for months and never got it running, put a new CPS on it, new coil/ignition module, new MAP, new/er PCM... Nothing helped, I gave up and had it hauled out to my aunt's house where it sat for several months. I decided I wanted to mess with it again so I went out there and messed with it, still nothing.

I finally decided to bypass the resister on the drivers side inner fender for the fuel pump and it fired right up... Just something you might want to check if you haven't already

Excellent point, and easy enough to try. In Post #1 he says he has 31 lbs pressure. Still, Easy enough to bypass that so as not to have that to wonder about as well. Can always put it back.

I got a noid light for it today and checked the #1 injector, it is getting power while cranking. Therefore, the injectors must be firing. Additionally, I took off the valve cover to verify the rocker arms are still functioning correctly to eliminate one more thing. They are in fact operating as they should eliminating a snapped timing chain as a possibility.

So far I have eliminated fuel system, ignition system, and the sensors in the electrical system are all within specs. The weather looks crummy tonight and the Jeep is sitting in the drive so I didn't have to move my Chevelle out to work on it. Tomorrow I'm going to rip the intake back off just to verify everything is hunky dory there.

not very likely, but have you confirmed that the distributor is turning? My friend had a 2.5 XJ that sheared the distributor gear off. Everything was lined up just right, so it was firing on #2 (was easiest plug to remove), so we assumed it was firing on every cylinder.

Turned out it wasn't...

Did you try spraying starting fluid in it? Like Doug mentions, there is no harm in bypassing that ceramic ballast resistor on the inner fender by the air box. You DO hear the pump run a few seconds when you first turn on the ign?

Btw the books and diagrams are wrong. #1 is at 5:00 viewed from the side, 153624 clockwise.

If it's not flooded, has spark at the plugs, and doesn't fire with starting fluid something is really wrong.
