No, cruiser, still no volvo cap.I haven't had time to work on her (or run her, for that matter). e have another child on the way, a daughter. And a trip to florida next month. And I just bought a house, and am about ready to graduate college. It has been a busy time in my life. lol. I will get the volvo cap and the shroud in may, and put them on. I am 98% sure that will solve all my problems...

I'm pretty confident both of those things will do the trick.

Thanks. Me too... The combo of air getting in the system allowing boiling of the coolant at a lower temp and the shroud not pulling air through the radiator, on top of the stop and gop of delivering pizza on an 85 degree day i think about did it. There is no coolant leaking, and none in the oil, so that should be it. I think it was low on coolant, since when I topped her off at advanced, she didn't overheat the last like 8 miles home. It is just a pain, because I didn't look at the coolant, and overlooked the shroud, which makes me feel a little bit like a moron.

food for thought..... I currently live in central california and have in the past and when I bought my 90 it did not have a fan shroud, and I have had no overheating problems (due to that) I also did the closed to open swap @ 2 years ago and have had no problems with it, took the system out of a 93.......one quirk, the fan comes on at a lower temp chrysler guy said it was from a change in the fan switch sensor specs for the new computer system.

Thanks. I figured that the most devastating part was the cracked cap.

That's probably it. Don't be surprised if the "new" cap quits sealing/strips threads/cracks again. The Volvo cap is the way to go.

Which Volvo cap should be used? I'm picking up an 88 XJ that will pop the cap up a couple threads when it gets hot. Acts just like a tea kettle.

So, does anyone know where to buy one of these fan shrouds? I could use one, but I'd rather by new, since with my luck I would get one from a JY and it would be brittle... lol

I appreciate it, Cruiser. The only problem i was having was the years. It says for 87's or 97-2001 or 98-2001. If it fits in an 87, it should fit on an 88, right? Thats the only thing that annoys me, its such a hassle to get one online and find out its not what you need... ick

Funny. Rockauto shows one for an 87 (<$20), but nothing for 88,89, 90..?

Anyway, no doubt I'd hit the JY. They don't see allot of wear! (but that's me, if it was clean and new, it wouldn't match)

I zam not to great with these renix engines and such, but I believe the "OverFlow" tank is the only way to fill the radiator with coolant. I would, either way. If it is disconected, do you just have it open?
