well althou im not new to wheelin i am new to the xj i just inheaireted
when my pop passed away he left my bro his stock 87 xj a divorce left him no where to store it so he gave it to me
i have a 07' jk 4" lift and 37"s all the offroad bells and whistles any way my bro said it has a cracked blosk im looking for a replacement motor and keep running into this amc or renix motor whats the diff? and how can i tell?

Its an AMC motor that they've been using for decades. Renault and Volvo made the electronics for the 4.0L when AMC still owned themselves, its call Renix system and only came on XJ's in the late 80's.

Some like it some dont. If the block is cracked you can use a HO 4.0L block and bolt the renix head on it, if the head is still good

renix XJ's can be hard to diagnose whats wrong because there's no check engine light. Instead you have to break down each system and test sensors with a voltmeter

From what I know, if you want to keep the renix system you will have to use the same head. I do know quite a few people who have successfully swapped out the whole system for a post '91 engine and fuel injection system You'll have to get a new computer though.
