Walked outside and the rear drivers side fender flare has partially popped off my '01 Cherokee. I want to remove it all the way so I don't lose it when I'm driving but not sure how to do it without breaking off the "tabs". I came loose from the back and only being held on at the front side. It's the body matched curved panel above the wheel well.

You have to remove the nuts on the inside of your fender..... You will Need a deep socket I believe it's a 10mm

You'll find that the weld screws on the flare retainers will snap off when trying to remove the nuts.


Buy new ones.

The nuts are M5x.080, with free spinning washer.

 

I just did this to mine on Friday. I PB blasted them before I started and didn't break a single one.

 

tweezybird didn't say were he's from but if he lives in, or his Heep is from,the rust belt, they will snap off. Trust me.... :-)

 

I'm in Indiana and we were working on it in a 7" of falling snow. Everything seemed to come off fine. Thanks all.

 

I'm going through this as well. If I'm able to successfully remove the 10mm nuts it sounds as if the fender flare will slide back into the grooves and I'll be able to reattach the bracket with flare on it? Kind of like sliding the bumper end caps back in place?

 

They break in California too. The studs are only slightly stronger than string cheese.
