Removing Oxygen Sensors

i got 2 new o2 sensors for my jeep finally!!
any special tool i need to remove then or any tips? should i run my xj for a little to warm the metal up?
can i use a crescent wrench?

I wouldnt use a crescent wrench, O2 sensors can be really in there. I think there is a special socket for O2 sensors.I would just use the right size wrench on it.

alright if i have a socket i will use it, hopefully i have doubles of the size i need so i can take an angle grinder and make a cut for the wire.

I used the correct size wrench...and immediately rounded off the O2 sensor nut. I tried tons of things and fought with it for an hour and a half, what works is getting a propane torch and heating the bung on the exhaust pipe around the sensor, being careful to heat the BUNG ONLY. Then use a channel locks to turn it. If you are as lucky as I was, it will come right out. Good luck
Remember to put antisieze on the male threads when reinstalling, just snug the new one up, if it leaks exhaust (I have never seen one) tighten a little more till it seals.

Tips:
- Make sure the exhaust is still warm when you go to remove the sensor - go for a short drive first. Ideally, you should just be able to touch the pipes before you yank your hand away. This makes it easier to remove the socket.
- Make sure that there is anti-seize on the new sensor's threads, it will either be pre-applied or there will be a small packet in the box. Use it! Torque to 19-21 pound-feet, with the never-seez. Do not overtorque!
The HEGO socket may be used to install and remove the socket. You can also use a flare nut wrench or a crowfoot flare nut wrench - take the new sensor with you to make sure you get the right size (most HEGO sensors use a 7/8" hex on an M18-1.5 thread, but not all. There are some variations...)
They are 22mm...or 7/8 like posted before....Don't cut the wire and try to remove the old one...just unplug it from the harness, then remove it. As far as heating it, only the bung, as stated, and be quick about removing it. As soon as it cools off, your back in the boat...stuck...

i removed the old ones and put the new bosch sensors in. i just ran into town to get oil and a filter and back and then i removed them. used a long pipe as leverage and they came unloosened right away.
