Default Removing the lifters?

What would be the easiest way to pull out the lifters and replace them?
And how can one inspect the lifters?

Cherokee 4.0 inline 6 yr 1997.

I haven't tried to remove my Lifters, no reason to,
But if there is room you should be able to use a lifter pulling tool and slide them out one at a time.

It isn;t much good if the ends are mushroomed, then your going to have to pull the cam and pan if that happened and drive them out with a hammer.

I quit a job one time because I wouldn't monkey rig a SB Chevy and put used lifters on a camshaft.

NB: The head has to come off of the 6-242 engine to remove the lifters! No two ways about it, with the OEM head. (The aftermarket aluminum head, I am informed, has large enough lifter bores to pull the lifters without removing the head.)

@caish - properly so. Never put used lifters on a new camshaft, and never put a lifter back on a camshaft unless it goes on the exact same lobe it was removed from.

New cam = New lifters. Always.

You can put new lifters on a used cam without incident, but you still have to follow proper break-in procedure to prevent the lifters and lobes from scuffing each other.

that was REALLY REALLY helpful 5-90.

Can you please give me a link to a website where I can get the lifters? Someone I know is coming from NY and they'll get them for me! that'd be really helpful.

A quick look online turned out with some 'omix-ada' lifters for about $6 each :S Need guidance here!

Omix-Ada parts aren't bad - I rebuilt a front end with them about two years ago...

They're still in the retail aftermarket, so you may want to call parts houses near your buddy (I guess there aren't any near you?) and see if they've got them. They may also be able to get them from an LWD in their network, which can save you a week in transit...

I did a quick search on summit racing, this is what I came up with:

http://www.summitracing.com/search/y...s/?Ns=Rank|Asc

Which option would the best to go?

Don't forget to get a good break in additive with zinc while you're at it.
