Default Removing the heater control valve on a '96 XJ

I've been told to completely remove my heater control valve. Never having dealt with this before I'm assuming this is it...

I guess all that's involved is just to remove this valve and re-connect the remaining hoses. Not sure exactly how those connections would go though. Hoses A & B both go to the heater box and hoses 1 & 2 both go to the motor. Here's where the top hose #1 goes...

If I knew what direction the water flowed in that last pic (to or away from the water pump) and which way the water should flow through the heater box that would be enough info to know how to hook the hoses up. I'm guessing the flow through the heater box is 'IN' through the bottom inlet and 'OUT' through the top outlet (in order to let air bubbles escape).

So am I getting this all about right? In what combination should these hoses be reconnected?

You've two hoses of different size from the motor to the heater core just hook them up accordingly.

On my '95 the hose to the top was a 3/4" and the bottom was a 5/8". I went to a few stores and bought the hoses for a '97 that come with the bends molded in them (this is not a requirement). One other thing on the valve itself, if there is a small vacuum hose you are going to need to cap that off as well.

Thanks yall. Never noticed they were different sizes. If doesn't cost too much I'll prob just get the hoses for the '97 and do a complete replace.

Tantalizing photo, does not show the other end of the hoses. Which one connects to the thermostat housing?
For comparison I've attached a photo of my 1995 XJ's engine bay lower down. (I am not sure if it is correctly plumbed.)

Thanks for the pics makros.

What kind of pen did you use to mark the tops of those plug wires? I need something that works that well.

I used a "paint pen" that you ask for from the guy behind the counter at your friendly local hardware store. Or Harbor Freight. In this pic, don't be fooled by the light yellow color---it is not a highlighter. The oil-based paint can flow out thickly and cover well and is moisture-resistant once it dries. Or borrow some finger-nail polish from someone you may know.
