Default Removing engine and transmission as one piece?

I am wondering if it is possible to remove the engine and transmission from an 88 XJ without disconnecting them. I am just going to be putting them back into another one, so I would love to be able to leave them together.

Also, if there is an easy way to connect the hoist chains to the engine, please let me know. I have found about 8 different ways on this forum which make me think there are no defined lift points.

Thanks for the help, these forums have been a life saver.

ya u can pull them together, its a lot easier if u take out the both radiators and the whole front clip on it. i just pulled the motor tranny and T-case all still connected together and it wasnt that bad actually

Thanks. I'm probably going to take the radiator anyways so this sounds like the way to go. Where did you lift from and how was the balance?

the way i did it was by removing the A/C Compressor/ alternator bracket and us one of the bolt holes that was closest to the front. the one on the back i removed the header bolt that was farest back and used that. i just had a floor jack on the T-case and me and my dad just walked it out all in one peice

I do it all the time. I just wrap chains around the manifold , the a/c pulley, and the bellhousing, then put bolts through the chains up by the hook after I hook it up to the hoist, so that it can't slide/tilt.
