Needing to replace the engine in my 01 XJ, does anyone have any experience with remans. ATK and Gear Head has a 3 yr unlimited mileage and Gear Head claims to have all the TSB updates performed. Hard to find reliable reviews on them.
Any knowledge and or experience with a good quality Reman would be helpful. Thanks for everyones help and advice.

i just put an atk in my 00. its almost up too 500.

runs really nice and smooth EXCEPT it knocks on start-up after its been sitting awhile. i can pump the gas and it wont do it, still trying to figure out whats going on, wether its the motor or something else.

this can go real bad real quick for me because i cant afford their "warranty".

Got a local machine shop with good word of mouth? That's always my first suggestion over a mass rebuilder.

Yeah I moved here to MO about 2 yrs ago from FL so don't know of any good shops. Been asking around at work but can't get a straight answer.

As for ATK, I would have to pay the core charge so theres an additional 350 off the bat, my engine will not turn over.

Good luck with the knock, I would not be happy about that. Seem really odd that pumping the gas helps. Seems as if your losing fuel pressure when it sits, but I don't know why that would make it knock. These damn Jeeps are such a love hate situation.

Get a Golen stroker! Finished mine a few days ago.. Tons of power. No core. 100k warranty. 200 miles on it with no problems whatsoever. If you can find a good local shop, it will save you a ton of money though.

OK, let's see, A Golen stroker for several thousand $ or a JY motor for $350. Hmmm, though decision....

Tough** He was not talking about a beat up JY motor. He asked about an ATK reman which are also $$$. Even no-name remans are expensive (1500ish)

Atks a good chioce replaced numerous motor thru the years. With no issues. As for a core charge just bring old motor in when you pick up new one .
