i was trying to remove the engine valve cover put i couldnt get it off so i just bolted it back on. was i suppose to put some rtv sealant on it?
if you never got it to break loose your prolly ok just tightening it back down. Silicon is prolly why you couldnt get it off, its like glue you just need to pry harder it will come loose.

you have to tap it with a hammer to break the old sealent off get a felpro silicone gasket when you change never use a cork gasket the felpro is a little more costly but its reuseable and leak proof its worht the extra cash

Mine had a similiar issue. Just tap it with a rubber mallet on the side.. it should just pop loose. DO NOT RAM SCREWDRIVERS OR ANYTHING TO TRY AND SEPERATE IT. You will more than likely screw up the lip of the VC. Also, if you're like I was and tight on cash and can't afford the $40 silicone gasket, get a normal Fel-Pro Rubber/Cork gasket for about $10 and some RTV sealant. Be sure to spread AT MOST a 1/16" bead of RTV around the middle of the mating surface of the VC. Put the gasket on the valve cover and apply light pressure so it 'seals'. Then repeat for the top of the cylinder head. Only use a small bead of sealant around the mating surface. Then carefully lower the VC back onto the head and apply light pressure downwards. Then bolt her up. It would be VERY convenient to have some u-joints for your ratchet for the back bolts.
