Default Regearing?

I'm getting ready to regear and was wondering if it is really as hard as people say. Seems to me you just need the tools and patience. If I'm wrong what would be the average price to get them done.

Most places charge an arm and a leg. You can do it on your own with a dial indicator, a service manual and some patience...Tj

x2 on the patience, just make sure you know what pre load and back lash are too. my neighbor helped me do mine for a case of beer

Patience is the key I've seen ring and pinons go in real easy and I've seen them need to be reinstalled as many as 5 times to get them right. As far as the cost of having someone do it for you 250.00 an axle is going to be in the ball park.

this isnt true. how will you press the new bearings onto the carrier? need a press. also a inch pound torque wrench. you will need a extra set of "setup bearings" having these will make life much easier

How much will all the tools cost? What are the good brands and places to buy?

Take pics if you can too. Place everything from the left on the left , and everything from the right on the right. Patience is a must.

X3, sounds like some one's been there, done that. There's an old forgotten place called the "public library" that has a wealth of info on how to do just about whatever.

check out randys ring and pinion website. they have all the tools needed. gears i leave to the professionals. to much $$ involved to screw up.
