Redundant Newbie Questions
Good morning. Brand new here but after crusing through your forum I think I've actually found the right place to be. Please bear with me for some issues I'm sure you've all heard before, but that are driving me nuts. We have an 86 4WD XJ Pioneer with 2.5 TBI. Bought it about six years ago with a blown motor and not a speck of rust anywhere. She'd been used for hunting in North Alabama and has the dents to prove it. Had the motor bored twenty over, new radiator, clutch assy, differential, fuel pump, water pump and on and on. Love the little tank, wouldn't trade her for the world. With the exception of the following things.
1. I've replaced the clutch slave and master five times (about once a year). It always starts with the clutch not releasing fully. That goes on for a week or two, then the whole system stops working. External slave cyl., no fluid visible anywhere. Just no clutch.
2. At highway speeds if I hit a bump just right the whole front end shakes violently and won't stop till I come to a complete halt. Then it's ok til the next bump at about 60MPH. No excessive tire wear and she tracks straight down the road if she's not wobbling.
3. Lately there is a problem of shifting into and out of 4WD. Vacuum lines are intact and when I pull the actuator off the front axle the shift fork seems to stick on the splined shaft.
I know you guys have heard all this many times before but we have had no luck getting help from NAPA, Autozone, Chrysler or anybody else.

for issue number 2 do a search in oem tech for "Death wobble" that will help you diagnose and repair that problem there are plenty of great threads about it. no idea about the other two sorry
1. Not sure
2. Death Wobble, search it, its appropriately named. Common problem btw.
3. Replace your Dana 30 shafts will full length shafts not the split shafts you currently have. That'll probably fix your problem, if not then its a problem with the t-case side of things.
