rebuilt engine
Where is the best place to buy a rebuilt engine? There aren't any big junkyards close enough to go with a lo mileage used one. Thanks. Coach.

Well it hasn't actually died yet but when I checked the oil yesterday it was kinda foamy, but only when I pulled the dipstick out the first time, when I checked it again it was normal. It's getting pretty tired though. Thanks guys. Coach

Truth be known, you won't be able to just throw a rebuild kit at your current engine and think that's all you'll have to do. Any rebuild is going to require machine work to the block and head, especailly with that kind of mileage. A reman motor would be cheapest, but a crate motor from Chrysler would probably be the best reliability wise (just look at how many miles you got out of that one).

There use to be two different types of oils you could not mix.
they would foam up.
I would just change the oil and go from there.
If its not smoking, weak on power, or knocking I wouldn't think its time for a rebuild.

Well it does have 330k+ miles on it, it is very tired, starting to lose coolant with none ending up on the ground (smelled like coolant when I started it this morning), I've been using the quaker state hi mileage oil for several years now so it's the same oil. Jasper was $2500, there's a place in Spokane with a 7 year 70k mile warranty for $1350, I'll have to check on the price of a crate motor. I've rebuilt motors in the past (long time ago), don't have the time or facilities to do that. Thanks for the replies! Coach

I would pull the head first and check it for a crack in between the valves on the #1, you can also pull your plugs and check for rust on the plugs base. If your cylinders are in good shape and you not burning oil go for the head job or a new head. I am pushing 422,100 on my 90 with the original block and second head. heads new or reman are about 600, if you take it to a shop it's about 60 to 400..........WAY WAY WAY cheaper
