Default rebuilding my 8.25 need info on locker and gears

I'm rebuilding my chry 8.25 id like to go with a detroit rear but idk if that's the thing I should run. I'm into just all around wheeling environment anything I put in front of my jeep. And I'm going to be running 33's should I go with a 4.10 or a 4.56? It will more than likely be driven to the trail also. Just would like other peoples perspective

Your 1991 Chrysler 8.25 has 27 spline axles. If I were you I would go to Randy's ring and pinion and get 29 spline shafts and 4.10 gears. For a locker I would go with a Power Trax No-Slip. That would give you a rear axle that would hold up to anything you will likely do with a Cherokee. Just my .02

Yea I've looked into the powertrax just not enough. Ill probably run 4.10 but a lot of people say to go with a 4.56 and I kinda think that's a tad much for 33

late year 96 and up are 29 spline. Everything before then is 27 spline.

If it is a 95 and has 29 spline they have been replaced, because like Frankz states the stock spline count for a 95 is 27.

Randy's has 29 spline 1541H axles for $70.62 for the 8.25, or JY the stock 29s, they will make the 8.25 strong enough to handle your 35s. ( sorry I guess it is for 33s )

for 33s just get 4.88s. you'll love the extra power you'll have left over with the lower gearing, and you'll be all ready to go 35s when the time comes.

I've thought about the gearing aspect but I'm doing some minor to medium engine mods so I should have enough power to run through what I do. And 33s are probably the highest id go on a xj.

just do it right the first time and throw them 4.88s in there! yes you'll lose a little bit of highway mileage but you didnt buy an XJ to get decent mileage now did you?

As far as I can tell my 8.25 has the stock gears(what ever they may be, I have no idea how to check). My jeep is a DD and I'd like to keep my MPG decent (for a cherokee). I have 32" tires and would like a little more power for mud, any suggestions?
