rebuilding a 4.0l
So i was curious about rebuilding a 4.0l inline6, the one i currently have a great running engine, but i just wanted to buy one from a junkyard just to rebuild and to have around if i do need it by chance, what do you guys think about this idea? Also just doing it for fun, maybe a little bit of a hobby, i have also never done this before so an tips would be nice

I have done this- rebuild a 4.0L that is. It was a learning experience, but a bit more costly than just buying a remanufactured motor. Check out my album- I think there is a copy of the receipt from the machine shop there...
wow O.o that's A LOT of money :P i was just expecting to get a junkyard motor for like 200-300$ take it apart find out what i need and just start fixing it up and only getting a few parts board and grinded or whatever evlse for a few hundred but 2 grand wow O.o
Then u would only have one crap motor...seriously a new engine need new parts. Bore ,hone, rings, pistons, bearings ect. If your looking for cheap u can get a fresh rebuilt longblock for 1300.00 on ebay. Shops can cut alot of the cost since they produce so many of them.
My shortblock for my cobra cost me 7k . New heads ,cnc porting,4 custom cams was another 6500.00. My return fuel system alone was 2k but whos counting anymore. Shes gonna make at least 1k hp to the wheels. Gotta pay to play...lol
