reattaching track bar
im trying to reattach the track bar to my axle after replacing the oil pan gasket. i installed a RC 3" lift and cannot line up the track bar mounting holes. would it be the lift causing it not to line up? i wouldnt think id need an adjustable track bar for a 3" lift.
thanks,
travis

Get down by your track bar mount and have somebody turn the steering wheel to the left slowly until the track bar hole lines up with the mount hole. It will, trust me.

x2. It works great. If you don't have an extra set of hands handy, you can do it slowly and hold the steering wheel in place by simply turning the key to off and using the steering wheel lock to hold it in place. I have done both but its much easier with the extra set of hands.

Are you sure you're only lifted 3 inches??? Otherwise I'd have to say, yes, you definitely have something bent wrong.

i can get it lined up with the wheel cranked and jacked up, but only with the tie rod connected and its right in the way of getting the bolt through.

I'm not sure what to tell you. I have a 3" on mine and I had no problems. Are you sure its only 3"? The only thing I can think of that would possibly be different is that I don't have a sway bar. Is yours still hooked up? Maybe try disconnecting it? I am kinda shooting in the dark but I hope it helps. Good luck.

i have it all disconnected, i had to to get the oil pan out. i think the bar is just bent, but i cant tell by looking at it since ive never seen one before. it had a horrendous death wobble when i bought it, so that might have bent it i guess. i cant get the top mount of the bar off, im guessing it must be some kind of a pressed in mount. im going to wire it up and take it to a shop down the street and see what they say. i cant think of anything else.

Have you tried good ole brute force on the axle? I didn't have a helper and just jacked up one wheel and kicked the heck out of the wheel to center the axle. Granted, I only needed to move it 1/4". Or if you have a heavy duty ratchet strap you could pull it over. Just me, but I would not drive it at all with the track bar disconnected...I can see disastrous death wobble occuring.

What you might have to do is use a pickle fork and take the tie rod end off, put your track bar on the axle and then get a new boot and attach to the frame. With the trouble you are having this might be the easiest.

if the ball joint is just spinning when you try to take the nut off on the track bar you probably have a bad track bar (they go out after a while) RE sells a "decent" trackbar for under $200. I am sure someone will tell you to stay away from their trackbars but i have one and don't NEED a rolled steel trackbar so RE's was fine for me
