Rearview Mirror Position
Hello all. It's been quite a while since I was on here last. I moved from Alaska and sold my beloved 200k+ 1993 I'd modified (still need to post all of those...) and here in Vermont I bought a 2000 a few weeks ago and I've been working on getting it inspected. The rear view mirror fell off and it was obviously just super glued on with no button and in the wrong place anyway. I found a button at the junk yard and have the proper chemicals in hand but...
Where is the center of your button located on the windshield? I need some measurements to a dot right in the middle of the button from the bottom of the top seal and from one side of the seal to the center, and whether the side to side measurements are equal. I know I'm being a bit obsessive but hey, this is the rearview mirror we're talking about. A very important safety device for Vermont's bureaucratic inspection system. Oh, and I'd prefer metric but I'll take Imperial. Thanks in advance! - Colt

I'm assuming you're measuring from the seal on the edge of the window, and not the actual metal of the pillar, right? Thanks for the quick response. You know how these late-night projects keep going and you just can't stop.

A picture won't be necessary, I appreciate the measurements. The height seemed a bit low and then I realized that if I mount it where I think it would be for me it probably wouldn't be as adjustable for shorter people.

Mine also fell off, it was while the windshield was being cleaned (inside). Luckily for me the old glue was still on. I outlined it in grease pencil before scraping the old off and re attaching.

This reminds me, the easiest way to mark the position is to hold the mirror in place with the shoe attached and have someone use a Sharpee or grease pencil to outline the shoe position on the outside of the windshield. If you do it from the inside the marks are much harder to clean off after the shoe is glued on. With them on the outside, you just wipe'em off.
