Alright, need some help guys. Last week I went to lube the transfer cases slip yoke to take care of the "thunking" when accelerating/stopping.. But like many before me I busted one of those tiny mother****** screws in the rear yoke. After about a couple hours I got a hole in the busted screw, ran out of time, and ended up putting another screw through it held with washers and nuts.. Sketchy I know. But it held up.
Couple days ago Saturday I picked up some easy outs, and the ford u-bolts. That busted screw wouldn't come out, and when I tried to drill it out more to slide in the u-bolts it just drilled crooked. So now I'm left with a ****** rear yoke.
It's a 99 limited with the c 8.25 axel. No parts stores in town carry the yoke.. And the Chrysler dealership only has 4 at their "regional distribution". But they want my first born in advance, about $140 for the yoke and seal and tax.
So this brings up question period.
First off can I drive my jeep in 4x4 with the rear driveshaft removed making it a fwd car, or will that spew fluid from the transfer case?
Does anyone know or have a link for where i can get rear yoke online? Or the size and specs of the 8.25 yoke so I can see if a local driveline shop has one?
And what's needed to install one myself? My confidence is low and I don't really want to **** anything else in the diff up haha. Is it nut, yoke, seal? Or is there anything else I'll need?
Thanks, sorry for the novel of this ordeal.

If you have a 96+ you can drive without the rear driveshaft. Your best bet might be a junk yard. Easiest way to pull it off is with an impact, or with the tires on the ground a breaker bar will suffice. Also wouldn't be a bad time to check/replace your pinion seal.

I got a nitro rear yoke for mine, I kept breaking those stupis strap bolts off roading. On my 1995 27 spline 8.25 the yoke was too skinny to drill out and use the U-bolts style, so I swapped it, and again onto my 97 29 spline when I got it

I was at the JY on Saturday and they did have a 98 limited which I assume also had the 8.25 axel.
I've never pulled a yoke off. And I won't have an impact at the junkyard. I may be able to get it off with a breaker bar. Are these things a ***** to pull?

Yeah I was trying to convert the straps to bolt style but after drilling figured it would be too skinny on the outside metal to hold. Oh well.

I'm sure other places sell the kits as well, this was the first one I found with a quick google search. http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...Category_Code=

From a JY I could see how it would be a PITA. On a vehicle with tires that is not 4 inches off the ground it should be simple.

You busted a bolt on an AB Jeep? I thought they didn't salt the roads up there!
x2 what sthon said. 96+ XJs, all TJs, and 96-00 ZJs and WJs with the NP242 all use the same slip yoke. Beware NP249s on the Grands. I removed a front DS from an Ontario 98 ZJ with just my 2' breaker bar and something to keep it from spinning. Blue loctite was slowing me down

Haha they don't salt the roads here. 3 of 4 screws came out nice and easy, last one, snap!
That yoke looks good sthon. Just trying to see if they ship north of the border and how much.
I'm planning on doing the seal as well. Might as well while i have the yoke off right?

Back to my other question, with the 242 I can drive it in 4x4 with the rear ds off no problem?
I've borrowed my dad's ... Uh BMW x5 while he is out of town and he's not really happy about it haha.
With me able to drive my rig, life would be easier..
But the last thing I want to do is mess anything else up right.
