Rear Wiper motor only runs momentarily with "WASH" switch

01 XJ, my rear windshield wiper will not run with the switch in the "constant wipe" position, it will only run when you hit the washer fluid sprayer for the rear, and only for about 2 or 3 wipes. I am not sure where to start? has anybody else had this problem and fixed it? I looked at the wiring diagram and can't really follow the distribution of power...

Pull the rubber boot off the wires where they come from the car to the lift gate. You probably will find corrosion and frayed wires. 2001's are notorious for this.
