In the last couple of weeks I've been hearing a whirring sound coming from the back of the XJ. Cant really tell if its the wheel bearing or just the wear on the MTs.. Figured since theres 147k on the rig and trails out here in the mid west consist of water and mud i was going to change them anyway. I've owned it since 60k so I dont think its been changed. I have a locked 8.25. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks again.

 

Easy way to check to see if its your bearing is to jack up the rig and try to wobble the tire up and down to check for play, If there is more than like a quater inch then thats your problem.

There shouldn't be any movement in your rear axle bearings. Try jacking the rear up off the ground and run it in gear while you listen for noises.
