Default Rear Turn Signals- Left doesn't work Right Flashes both

1987 XJ 2.5L Front signals work just fine however on the rear my left signal doesn't work. My right signal works but flashes both right and left signals. Metered the wires. What was originally the left signal wire now only has power when I put the switch to signal right. Looks like my brake lights aren't working anymore either. Im hitting a brick wall here guys could really use a hand.

I did also remove the trailer wiring harness but I do not see how that would mix up left and right signals but stranger things have happened

Check the grounds behind the spare tire panel. Was this where your trailer harness was wires in?

Yes that is where the old trailer harness was tapped into. I have already replaced the turn signal switch. I will look at the grounds. Little more info. I did swap out the lights with a combo stop/turn/tail led housing. and yes i put the proper flasher for led lights in as well. Simple project turned to PITA this thing is royally pissing me off

You tried putting the original back? They're supposed to all be separate circuits.

Been doing more reading through dozens of threads a few of them mention a trailer relay? Does that mean I screwed myself by removing the trailer harness?

Was removing this the wrong thing to do? It was part of the trailer harness...

No idea here - it's certainly not OEM. I've not torn into my harness.

Trailers use combined turn/stop/tail so maybe that was making things work before.

I have a similar issue but ONLY when pulling a trailer. It's definitely strange, but that trailer wiring could be the root of the problems.
