Default Rear Tire Movement Indicating Bad Bearings?

Hey guys, long time lurker here. After replacing my 2 year old failed bearings in the front axle, I checked my rears. I jacked the rear up and grabbed the tire at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and and moved it in and out. There is a distinct metallic knocking sound while I do it. Is this an indication of a failed bearing or something else? The tire didnt seem to have any play when I pulled with one hand and pushed with the other. I have 265K miles and don't think the bearing has been replaced previously.

I would say you have play in the c clip in the rear differential . If you have up & down play then the bearing and maybe the axle could be bad also . Differential
