Rear tire carrier
Check this out. Detours XJ Tailbone. Unless you actually want a full bumper, this is the way to go. Reasonable price. And if you do prefer a bumper combo, they make that too. Call 'em.

, never would of thought of doing it that way. If I could find a used one of those for about half the price of new one I'd be set. Maybe I'll save my pennies for a while.

Yeah, I found the post.
What I really want to do is to put a box on the back but still be able to use the hatch, something like this:

I'm just tired of keeping my tool box, tow straps, etc, in the cargo area.
So I could make something like this work just as easily:

If you guys can think of anything that would work, please let me know.

Yeah that's exactly what I want to do. However, the cheapest new swing arm I've seen is just short of $400. I can't see myself paying $400 plus the cost of a lock box just to hold my tools and some misc. stuff. Maybe I'll start with something cheaper like an H4 conversion kit.

just build it your own, i kno alot of guys have used spindles for a trailer for the hinge and the metal shouldnt be too much, all you gotta do is get your hands on a welder. if you kno someone in the military or are close to an army base they should have welders at the do it your self auto shop, thats how im gonna weld mine up when i start it.
My welding skills and general fab skills are horrible. Maybe one day when I'm making lots of money and have a nice big garage I can practice and do things right, but for the time being I was hoping to do something relatively simply (plug and play sort of thing) that still looked good.
Cheap87 sad something about building them for about 50 bucks a pop, I pmed him to ask him about that. I dunno, I guess its hard to do this stuff on the cheap without a garage and scrap steel.

lol yeah steel for just my bumper was like 120 luckily i got the auto shop on the base im stationed at to use the welder and torch and lift. all together itll prolly cost me 150 for paint and time at the auto shop. just wish i had a welder so i could have built it allready. but as far as plug and play goes i doubt youll be able to make one or get one that will actually hold up
