Default Rear tail lights dim on my 92

During the daytime I have noticed the brake lights are rather dim.
Tried different brands and types of bulbs with little luck.

Have the lenses become less transparent?
Maybe needing replacement?

Anyone else have a replacement lens they like/recommend?

I suggest you check and clean the wires/connections (especially the ground wires). Clean then protect them with dielectric grease.

Thanks for tips.

I have tried a number of tricks on the bulbs so I'm thinking the lens has become aged.

Been looking for an aftermarket lens that might transmit light better.

THose "ricer" type clear lenses come to mind.

Any suggestions?

You say you tried a number of tricks on the bulbs but what about the wires (ground and positive)? I would rather cut off my left hand before using the clear/euro style lens. I think they are ugly (but not as dopey as smoked tail lights). Have you tried a headlight polishing kit on the tail lights? Maybe you can make them nice again. Something like this:

Used different blubs including the LED types.

Cleaned/greased the contacts and grounds. The bulbs burn bright and even.

The lenses don't appear fogged or dirty, just dim.

Glad I upgraded to the third brake lite.

Its my DD so having good lighting is helpful

It sounds like a voltage drop from either poor hot wire or more likely, poor ground.

And the poor ground could be somewhere else on the chassis wiring, not just near the taillights.

I think I'll do a voltage drop check across the brake system lighting.
