Default rear sway bar removal

I have a 87 XJ and 3" lift on it and was wondering if removing my rear sway bar would be ok to drive on the road. This is a DD and I never no when I will be off road. I definently will wheel on weekends but could happen any time also!! I know it will give me more flex and I plan on doing quick dis connects up front. Any info would help

If the lift you installed for the rear is new leaf springs or a rear AAL, it stiffens the rear up enough to where there are no issues with removing the rear sway bar. I've heard of guys lifting with blocks and the stock rear springs don't provide enough stability without the rear sway bar and it can get a little hairy on the corners. My son and I installed a 3" lift on his 87 XJ that was lifted in the rear with an AAL and his XJ drove fine without the rear sway bar. It all depends on how you feel and your driving style. disconnect the rear sway bar links and take your XJ for a spin around the block. If it feels okay to you, pull the sway bar off and sling it in the weeds.

well I just have blocks in the rear , but put springs on from a 99 (because mine was broke!) and it doesn't get much driving just pulling a trailer sometimes and muddin, other than that, just driving to town about 10 minutes and back!! So I guess off it goes!!!

If you are pulling a trailer with your rig I would leave the sway bar intact. It give more stability when pulling a trailer.

I've pulled a trailer with mine gone, and it was fine. Interstate speeds, with no issues.

What i'm saying is, if he had a lift with aal (good) or with full spring packs (best) he would probably be fine pulling a trailer without the rear sway bar. But given that his lift is blocks instead it would probably be safer to leave the sway bar intact while pulling a trailer.

Point taken!! I forgot about him having blocks. My first experience with this scenerio was a ZJ, but both XJs since have had full packs on them. I'm sure that helped.

it does not really hurt your flex with it on to much i would leave it since you are towing. but just remember that a lot of the xj's don't even come with a rear bar and you can still tow with them
