Have someone jump on the rear bumper a few times and watch the fronts of the leafs. Id they move separate from the bolt and bushing the bolt runs through its probably bad.

If the leaf moves in a manner to which the bushing, bolt, and leaf are not all solid and the assembly has play in it, the front bushing of your leaf soring may be bad, allowing it to slightly move creating a clunking noise as the bushing bumps the bolt that connects the leaf to the mount on the subframe.

I do not suggest jumping on the rear bumper unless you for certain the bumper brackets are BOTH rust free. My neighbors kid did that and, well, now one sides dangling.....darn KIDS!

It would be very rare that this particular bolt would degenerate before the bushing except in extremly high salty areas where you have salt around 24/7 365....ad the rubber would still rot first.

The repair is a........ bear! And even after 3 weeks of spraying twice a day with PB Blaster the bolts would not come out on my off road toy. They both just spin. The fix....cut them out, put in new nuts on the inside and new bolts and weld up what you had to cut out of the frame. There are several topics on the repair if you use the forum search function. Some with pictures too

Also if the spring is stretched it can actully hit the bottom of the floor. At that bushing stockspring are not a complete circle but a "J" and the "J" can be stretched and bounce on the mount and floor.

If your bumper is that bad it shouldn't be on the truck in the first place.

That could be the source, as well as brake pads or shoes believe it or not.

Fix your bi-focals and maybe you'll comprehend the posts on the silly interweb. I know it can be difficult for the elderly to understand technology.
