Default Rear Speakers?

So I have a 99 XJ SE. While it is in fact a stripper model, it does have the soundbar speakers in the trunk. The only thing is, they dont work, along with the rear passenger door speakers, and the driver's door speaker. In total, I have one speaker that works.

I'm aware of the common driver's doorjamb boot problem with the speaker wire breaking, but I'm not sure if there's a common fix for any of the rears? I'm hoping it's going to be something easier than tracing a short or break for all four rear speakers.

Any suggestions?

Question

Hmm... I wasn't aware that there were speakers in the rear doors. My 98 Sport has front door speakers and two in the rear headliner. Do you have the Infinity sound system? Or maybe a previous owner added rear door speakers at some point?

Yea, I have a 98 Sport too and I only have (stock) two in the front doors and two in the rear headliner. The PO tried to add one speaker in the rear drivers side door but that didn't work. Personally, first thing I'd try, is to see if the speakers were blown. Just gently press down on both sides of the center and listen closely, if it crackles, then the speakers are blown and you need new ones. Other than that, it's prolly just a wiring issue.

probably the wiring check that the wires are indeed connected behind the deck and if still no sound check the wiring on the speakers themeselves. If the wiring looks like crap or if everything is spliced up just get some 10 gauge speaker wire from walmart and re wire them yourself its really easy. If you value your music you might wanna just buy new speakers as well to eliminate the guessing game wether they work or not.

Any time I install a stereo system, I always run new wire. That way I don't have to deal with what the PO did. And the factory 18 GA. speaker wire, is now replaced with one piece 16 GA. No splices! If there is any problems, I know where to look. JMO!

Well, I'm an idiot. The jeep is actually my girl's daily and I want to put a new stereo and speakers in while she's out of town. What I originally thought to be speaker grilles in the rear doors were in fact just little ridges added for "style" I guess. I've actually wired a sub on my brother's xj but I'm not exactly sure how to get the wiring from a speaker to the stereo via the headliner or door jamb. Any tips or tricks? Where exactly is the wiring routed? Thanks dudes!

Remove radio, get a multimeter and check every pair of wires, going to each speaker.
Remove speaker connectors and check speaker resistance.
Check each wire between speaker and radio connector.

I ran mine under the door jam sills. Pull the trim plates off and there is a channel that runs under it. Try not to cross any power leads with the speaker wire. Or all you will hear is the alternator buzzing.

I went up the a pillar across the top of the door and above the rear window for my soundbar. I dont know if thats as easy on a 4 door.
