Rear speaker help
Searched a little but came up with nothing. My rear speakers in my 2001 cherokee just randomly stopped working the other day. I got in, started the jeep, heard a little fuz/crackle from the rear speakers, then nothing.
Any ideas on what this might be? The speakers are not the factory ones, they are sony x-plod.
Thanks

I had the same problem. But its probably not the same solution for yours. Anyway, somehow my rear window wiper cable had come apart and the exposed wire fell down and stuck to the magnet on my aftermarket 6x9's. They crackled, then popped, then stopped working. I took the panel off, saw the wire stuck to the magnet. So i fixed the wire, and as soon as i took the wire off the magnet my speakers started working again. If nothing like that has happened to yours, i would just get a volt meter and check the voltage on the speaker wire. If there is no voltage at the wires, you've got something between there and your head unit that has come lose. Hope this helps!

I myself would run all new speaker wire. Instead using factory. That way you Know what you have. And not count on the P.O.'s handy work. That's what I did. I could give a lot more reasons for upgrading stereo, and wiring, and etc. But it take to long.

All the wiring is factory. PO did nothing but instal the sony speakers. I put in the stereo from the limited that my friend had. So everything is factory except for the speakers.

I think running new speaker wire to your rear speakers at least, would be your solution. Did you check the back of the head unit to make sure no wires came lose?

test the speakers to see if they are showing 4ohms or if blown if they are still good grab a speaker you know 100% works hook it up if nothin still you can either bump with a 9volt battery at different points on the wire between the head unit and speaker incase of a break or jumper a wire from one of the rear outputs to your speaker also try pulling the speakers out if a wire is grounding out it will cut both speakers out it should cut all four out but I have seen only two cut out before. Also bump from the back of the deck if it bumps than i'd swap the headunit it may have lost the rear outputs since it is a used deck. Hope that all makes sense and helps

if you don't have the infinity, then the speaker wires are going directly from the deck to the speakers.
1. test the rear speakers by hooking them up to another deck or to the front connectors.
2. match the wire colors from the speakers to the harness on the back of the deck.
example: if the wires going to the left rear are purple and purple-black, find the same wires on the back of the deck. splice into them about 5-6 inches from the harness and test it with a different speaker that has been tested and works.
if it doesn't work, then you have
a-bad harness (extremely rare)
b- bad output from the deck
if it works, then your wires are bad.
as someone already mentioned earlier, it's always a better idea to just go ahead and run some new wires.
and if the deck is bad, then just check the craigslist in your area for another deck. as far as i know, most any chrysler-dodge-jeep deck from 97-04 is the same.
i have a brand new cd deck from my 04 dakota and a cd-cassestte from my '99 XJ just going to waste.
most people sell them pretty cheap on craigslist.
