God dang...I don't know where to start. I was going to swap shocks on my 98 XJ, but when taking the but off- it decided to break off. My fault for not using heat (used alot of PB blaster)
Anyways..this is what I am left with and need some help before I start fabbin' away; which is not my strong suit..
You might be able to drill a hole big enough to thread a bolt in there and, if you have access to a welder, weld the bolt to it. Then use heat while you try and loosen the broken one via the new one threaded in. That's just something I would try, someone probably has a better idea though.
It's been years, but if I remember right I was able to drill the center out of it and use an EZOut to get it out. It wasn't that hard, because you have such good access to it.

I think its a welded bolt piece...I tried extracting it using my kit. Hence why it looks slightly drilled. It wouldn't even budge with the extractor.
It's a shoulder bolt. You need about 1 1/2" of shoulder for the shock bushing. You will need about 1/2" of shoulder for the thickness of the mount bracket that you will drill out.
What is described is a way to replace exactly what you have.....or had.
I will post pictures of how I did it- open to criticism and help! I am a 23yr old DIYer..Unfortunately never had a father figure-like person to show me how to wrench. Self taught, and I stumble.. but make it through somehow

Well...my biggest drill bit isnt big enough- by what seems a few millimeters. I rounded both sides of hole I made so about half of the bolt will fit before getting caught. I have been rotating batteries all day on my Dewalt.
Should I keep trying to make it a bit bigger by rounding my drilling? Or jsut go buy the bigger drill bit?
