With heat And PB blaster the extractor shouldnt break... but I have been wrong before. You have several Idea's now. Let us know what you find the easiest.

you are making a whole lot more work out of this than is needed . I hit the broken pieces with a punch on an air hammer in about 30 seconds all 4 are removed ( regular hammer and punch will work fine ) and you are left with 4 nice holes that you can put a 5/16" bolt either 3/4 or 1" long with a flat washer on the bolt " across " the end of one of those little magnets on a telescopic handle . You have room to feed the bolt carefully from the opening near where the nuts were located . It sounds worse than it is and you have bigger bolts than the factory installed . Its common practice on any of the XJ forums I visit . I did it and its not hard and a hell of a lot less th work than drilling and retapping or cutting holes in the floor . their are many write ups on it just don't use 1/4" bolts like some say ,way to small a bolt

Yeah tighten the bolt up with a nut and then put the shock on and use another nut to hold the shock. I think stryker did it that way. Need a 1" or 1.5" long bolt i think, something like that.

I tried the extractor broke almost right away (well my dad tried it and broke it before i was home from work) and then i used the air hammer and got all 4 out easily. i will do what stryker did, that seems to be easiest!

I don't think you can get anything longer than 1" in there using 5/16" bolt because you are sliding the bolt to the hole with it on its side ( not enough room verticle ) and only is their enough room to stand the bolt up when you get part of it starting to come through the hole . Once both bolts are in place carefully slide the shock in place and once both bolts are through I twisted the shock to hold the bolts in place so I could install a flat and a lock washer then the nut . Then fish the 7/16 wrench on the head of the bolt to tighted it all up

I don't have a Air hammer I have no Air tools I was using a ballpeen and a punch. Maybe that is why I had no luck. Glad you have a solution.

I just welded new bolt heads to the factory location, creating studs, then mounted the shocks and double nutted them. Hasn't failed me in over a year.

I like that.

The best way to learn how to weld is just to do it. Once you lay down your first consistent bead, you'll be melting things together left and right.
