Default Rear Rattle

Pretty new to the Jeep world so this may be a simple question. My rear end sound like a bag of quarters jingling around whenever I drive on any kind of rough surface. Would this mean I need new shocks?? Or do I need new leafs?

Your question sounds a little vague. Does the back end wobble more then the front? Or is it pretty even with the rest of the vehicle. Try to be a little more specific

Have you looked for a bag of quarters jingling around whenever you drive on any kind of rough surface? Never know what the PO left you.

I just fixed a rattle that I had been trying to track down for the longest time that was coming from the rear. Turns out one of the speakers in the sound bar had a wire that was loose and would rattle against the plastic of the sound bar. Nothing a used shop rag and some duct tape couldn't fix

The rattle seems to only come from the rear. Aside from occasional death wobble...my front end is pretty solid. I've gotten under there and looked for anything hanging or banging bust haven't found anything yet.

Could be your hatch. Mine bounces around a lot.

My rattle is a bad heat shield on my catalytic converter. That sounds just like a bag of nickles ( i cannot afford quarters) rolling along the backseat. While i was under there i also noticed my rear e brake cable is hitting the top of the muffler, quess thats my next fix.

I had a rattle and i looked all over to find it but then realized that it was the latch for the rear door. Fixed that and then heard another rattle that souns like someone tied a couple washers onto the undercarage in the rear and ive looked many times but cant find that one.

Check you clips on your leaf packs. Mine all slid forward when my packs went to crap and it would cause a horrible rattle

My rear settle was caused by a loose price of plastic trim above the hatch speakers. Ripped it out now its scary quiet compared to before.

Try removing your rear sway bar. I had the same problem and that solved it. You do not need the rear sway bar and you will never know its gone.

Mine did the same when off road. There's a FSB (NUMBER: 02-03-99) on the problem dealing with leaf spring camps wearing out:

"A new leaf spring retainer clamp, p/n 05014495AA, has been released. This clamp wraps around the spring to keep the individual leafs aligned and assembled when the spring is removed from the vehicle. This part has not been available separately in the past. It should be used in situations where the original clamp is loose on the spring and is rattling or has become separated from the spring."

I made new ones using 1/4 X 1-1/2" flat stock and stainless 1/4" bolts and nylon lock nuts.
