Is there any way to adjust the rear gate? It doesn't close tight enough, doesn't come loose, just rattles on rough pavement. Thanks.

One of the first things I did when I got my XJ was to replace the liftgate bump stops.. It's amazing the noise generated when they go bad...

Also make sure the trim panel isn't loose.
you may increase the length of the 2 bump stops by gluing a small appropriate thickness bit of rubber to the body where bump stop rests. self adhesive rubber strip such as for use so seal home doors and windows that reduce drafts, can be used. a little 1x 1 inch square maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick will work if more ridged foam rubber type can be used. Softer foam will require greater thickness. This assumes the bump stops are not missing. You can test if this will work and get an idea of thickness by tearing a bit of cardboard and temporarily tape to that location, increase layers of cardboard as need. if this solves the issue, then go buy the self adhesive rubber bits. or add the self adhesive bit to the tip of the rubber bump stop instead of the body. easy peasy.
