Default rear fender trimming unsafe to unibody

hey my front fenders are trimmed so my 32s can stuff when they flex, my back has full rubicon express 4.5" packs and 32" MTs and they dont rub but im going to 33s and i wanted to trim my rear fenders, but i heard thats unsafe because the rear fenders are press-welded or whatever and if you cut them free they become free from the uni-body structure and i have heard this is unstable. Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knew anyhting about this.

i honestly have never heard anything regarding that. plenty of people cut and fold the rear fenders. you should be fine.

just please dont do a complete hack job.

Ok, if you cut just below the holes that held on the flares, you should be fine. If you cut higher, you will be cutting into two layers of sheet metal. One is the outside of the body and the other is the part that goes up into the wheel-well and eventually becomes the inside of the body. When I trimmed mine last week, I cut too high. I don't think that it is a big deal but it looks ugly. There's a huge gap between the layers. I am still trying to patch it up. I am glad that perhaps someone can benefit from my error.

I have mine trimmed higher than I should and I would say there is an inch to an inch and a half of clearance on either side (265/75R16)(31.5x10.75) when they are stuffed to the centerline of the wheel.

i cut below the pinch welds then cut a little slice in either corner and hammered the rest of the lip up underneath and i can fit 33's no problem. they won't stuff at all but i'm not worried about that since i mostly stick to mud
